Over the past years, trade cooperation has been a bright spot in the relationship. China has remains Viet Nam's biggest trade partner, and Viet Nam is China's largest trade partner in ASEAN.
The two-way trade stood at US$133.09 billion in 2020 and rose to US$165.9 billion in 2021, US$175 billion in 2022, and US$105.46 billion in the first eight months of this year.
Regarding investment, as of the end of August 2023, China's total registered FDI in Viet Nam was US$25.8 billion with 3,949 valid projects.
Viet Nam and China have signed many bilateral cooperation deals, along with multilateral agreements such as the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP).
