VGP – The Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee has decided to keep school shutdown until February 28 amid coronavirus fears.

Schools across Ha N oi will be closed at least until the end of February as the capital recorded new coronavirus cases on Monday.

Online classes could be an option for the capital's over two million students from kindergarten to high school levels, said Chairman of the city People's Committee Chu Ngoc Anh.

The Chairman r equested the city's Department of Education and Training let universities and colleges follow suit.

The Capital was among 13 localities to let students stay at home after the Tet break amid rising coronavirus cases, others being An Giang, Ben Tre, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Binh Thuan, Can Tho, Dien Bien, Ha Nam, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, HCMC and Thanh Hoa.

Earlier, learners had a week-long break ahead of schedule for fear of coronavirus transmission. They had been scheduled to resume classes on Feb ruary 17.

Last year, Covid-19 also forced schools across the country to close for three months after Tet.

On February 15, two new coronavirus-positive cases were confirmed in connection with a deceased Japanese man in the Somerset West Point hotel in Tay Ho District.

The two latest cases are a 24-year-old woman in Ba Dinh District and a 43-year-old Japanese man in the same Tay Ho hotel, who both are colleagues of the deceased man at trading firm Mitsui Vietnam.

So far, the city logged 33 locally transmitted cases since the third wave of infections which began on January 17./.
