According to Hanoi's Institute of Socioeconomic Development, Viet Hung ward was formed by merging most of the area and population from the former wards of Thuong Thanh, Duc Giang, Giang Bien, and Viet Hung, along with parts of Gia Thuy, Phuc Dong, and Phuc Loi wards in Long Bien district.
The name "Viet Hung" was retained due to its historical roots as a longstanding ward in Long Bien. The name carries deep cultural and historical resonance, preserving the memories of generations of residents.
Viet Hung shares borders with the wards of Phuc Loi, Bo De, and Long Bien, as well as the communes of Phu Dong and Dong Anh in Hanoi.
The headquarters for the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front, and other social organizations of the new Viet Hung ward is located in the former precinct buildings of the Long Bien district's Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee.
Viet Hung covers a natural area of 12.91 km² and has a population of 83,188.

The ward occupies a key position in Hanoi's Northeast development corridor, linking the inner city and Gia Lam's industrial zone. It serves as an eastern gateway to the capital and offers direct access to major transport and trade routes, which benefits logistics, commerce, and interregional services.
Viet Hung hosts major shopping centers, bustling streets, supermarkets, and large traditional markets. It also maintains a thriving household economy based on traditional crafts and small-scale industries.
Traditional neighborhoods such as Le Mat, Duc Giang, Thuong Thanh, and Giang Bien still feature local woodwork, textiles, light engineering, silk flower production, and food processing. These contribute to economic diversity and establish the ward as a vibrant center for consumption and services.
Thanks to its infrastructure, population density, and thoughtful planning, Viet Hung has grown into a comprehensive economic hub and a primary driver of the Northeast urban area of Hanoi. Its development continues to reinforce the ward's status as a green, modern, and highly livable urban district in eastern Hanoi.
Viet Hung also offers rich traditional cultural heritage and a socially diverse, civilized, and modern environment with strong potential for sustainable development. Notable local landmarks include Le Mat Pagoda, Truong Lam Pagoda, and Tinh Quang communal house. Traditional festivals like the Le Mat Festival and Truong Lam Festival continue to be celebrated annually.
Regarding education, healthcare, and social welfare, Viet Hung ranks among the city's highest in living standards and integrated development. The ward includes several nationally accredited and high-quality schools.
With its combination of urban dynamism, cultural preservation, and sustainable growth, Viet Hung sets an exemplary model for urban wards in eastern Hanoi.
