Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council, on August 2 joined Hoan Kiem Ward in a citywide environmental cleanup event.
According to Nguyen Toan Thang, Vice Chairman of the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee, the ward was established on July 1, 2025, as part of Hanoi's new two-tier local government model.
It was formed by merging all natural areas and populations from the wards in the Old Quarter of the former Hoan Kiem District.
This includes the entire areas of Hang Ma, Hang Bo, Hang Dao, Hang Bac, Hang Buom, Hang Gai, and Ly Thai To wards, most of Dong Xuan, Trang Tien, Cua Dong, Hang Bong, and Hang Trong wards, and parts of Cua Nam (formerly in Hoan Kiem District) and Dien Bien (formerly in Ba Dinh District).
Following the reorganization, Hoan Kiem became one of Hanoi's smallest administrative units in terms of area, yet has one of the highest population densities.
Located in the heart of the capital, the ward regularly hosts important political and cultural events and is a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.
Given its significance, ensuring public order, traffic safety, and environmental cleanliness has always been a key task for the local political system.
At the first Party Congress of Hoan Kiem Ward for the 2025–2030 term, the goal was set to build the ward into a smart urban area.
The plan focuses on cultural and human development, green and digital transformation, and building a modern, intelligent infrastructure.
It also aims to foster scientific innovation, promote the value of the Old Quarter, protect historical relics, and enhance public and community spaces by leveraging the ward's cultural heritage.
To make environmental cleanliness a daily routine and a shared responsibility, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem Ward has called on all officials, public servants, workers, and residents to maintain a strong sense of awareness and personal responsibility.
The message is clear: keeping the environment clean starts with protecting one's own health and that of their family, which in turn supports the well-being of the wider community.
Everyone is encouraged to work together to maintain a "Bright – Green – Clean – Beautiful" and more civilized ward.
Le Hoang Thuy Van, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoan Kiem Ward, praised the event as a meaningful and practical action that reflects the shared determination of both the government and the people to protect the local environment.
She called on all community members, from political and social organizations, government agencies, businesses, to individual citizens and households, to actively collect garbage and disposal, and regularly clean streets and public areas.
Local people kick off the event by cleaning the streets.
Van also expected that local people, businesses and stores will plant more trees and flowers, reduce the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic products, and choose environmentally friendly alternatives whenever possible.
Immediately after the launch ceremony, city leaders, ward officials, and residents joined together to clean several main streets including Luong Van Can, Hang Gai, Cau Go, Dinh Liet, and Hang Thiec.
Meanwhile, the ward's Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union carried out the removal of illegal advertisements and flyers in the area.
