The launching ceremony in Hai Ba Trung Ward.
Duong Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, on August 2 attended an environmental sanitation campaign launched by Hai Ba Trung Ward.
According to Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of the Hai Ba Trung Ward People's Committee, environmental sanitation in Hanoi, especially Hai Ba Trung Ward, has seen positive results thanks to coordinated and determined efforts.
Waste collection and the "Green Weekend" campaign have gradually become regular practices, while management of outdoor advertising has been strengthened, with improved decoration and public awareness efforts citywide.
However, Hung noted that the progress is not yet sustainable.
Public awareness and compliance with urban environmental rules remain limited among some organizations and individuals.
Community involvement in environmental protection has yet to form into a clear civic culture. Unsightly billboards and ads still clutter the streets in some areas.
Hung urged all departments, agencies, local organizations, schools, and residential groups to raise awareness and take action to promote cleanliness and build a civilized, modern lifestyle.
He called for a practical and wide-reaching emulation movement starting from the grassroots level, aimed at spreading the message of a "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful" Hanoi, improving quality of life, protecting public health, and enhancing the city's urban image.
He also asked for a review and clean-up of areas at risk of poor sanitation, including garbage hotspots, traditional markets, streets defaced by illegal advertising, construction sites with scattered materials, and low-hanging overhead utility wires. These areas should be prioritized in the clean-up campaign.
Public agencies, organizations, and schools were encouraged to take part in "Green Weekend" activities every Friday afternoon to clean both their premises and the surrounding public spaces.
Every Saturday morning, residents in each residential group are to continue cleaning their living areas and nearby public spaces to help beautify the ward.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Duong Duc Tuan urged Hai Ba Trung Ward to continue building on recent progress in environmental sanitation and urban management.
He stressed that this must be seen as a key, long-term task of the entire political system and the shared responsibility of every citizen, agency, and local authority to help Hanoi become a more modern and livable city.
He called on the Party Committee of the ward to strengthen its leadership and direct, consistent, and active involvement in sanitation efforts.
The Vice Chairman also encouraged stronger organization, coordination, and monitoring in this area.
Tuan urged local authorities to promote friendly competition among residential areas, linked to campaigns for "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful" neighborhoods.
He suggested weekly clean-up events and maintaining the "Green Weekend" movement, along with model initiatives such as "Trash-Free Residential Areas," "Green Corners," "Reviving Rivers and Lakes," and "Streets with Flowers."
Relevant departments and agencies were tasked with advising the city government on improving urban management technology, installing surveillance cameras at known waste hotspots, and building a digitized management platform to enhance the transparency and effectiveness of sanitation efforts.
Right after the launch ceremony, local authorities and residents joined forces to clean up public areas across the ward.
